A board certified psychiatrist, Dr. Heller was born and raised on Long Island, New York. Many of his family members have been, and are physicians. He is married and has two teenage sons, fifteen and sixteen years of age. He moved to New Jersey in 1990, after completing postgraduate training in general surgery and psychiatry at Stonybrook University Hospital. Undergraduate studies were at Villanova University, graduating summa cum laude. Dr. Heller attended Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia and graduated with full honors.
The majority of his practice of psychiatry is devoted to treating emotional illnesses with both short term and long term psychotherapy, although Dr. Heller is well prepared to treat with medications. His view of psychotherapy is for the therapist and patient to help remove those attitudes and behaviors that prevent individuals from expressing their feelings in a healthy, constructive and productive manner.
